Job Description:
JOB SUMMARYThe Safety Ambassador supports the Permanent
Supportive Housing team and is responsible for promoting and
ensuring a safe environment by maintaining a physical presence
across Plymouth Housing properties. Location focus will be on
buildings where incidents have been higher and where staffing
ratios are low as determined by the Crisis Manager, Safety
Management, Deputy Director of Permanent Supportive Housing or
Chief of Supportive Housing Officer. This position will support
staff who are providing support and trauma informed care to
residents who, as a result of trauma, do at times act out frequent
verbal and physical aggression. Many of these incidents can be
mitigated by rapport with residents and de-escalation skills. The
Safety Ambassador will monitor cameras, be available to receive
phone calls/radio from the buildings for backup support, rove the
properties (using Plymouth funded means of transportation) walk
with staff through the hallways conducting floor checks, walk with
staff to and from their method of transportation before/or after a
shift if needed. In certain situations, the Safety Ambassador may
be positioned at a building for a portion of their shift. If there
is an active eviction of a resident, the Safety Ambassador may be
positioned at that building during their shift. Safety Ambassadors
will document interactions with residents and notify their
supervisor of any safety concerns or risks noticed. The Safety
Ambassador will maintain a high-quality safety service delivery
based on the values inherent in Plymouth’s mission, the principles
of cultural proficiency, the tenets of harm reduction,
trauma-informed care, the ‘housing first’ philosophy, and work
towards maintaining a stable environment all while fostering a
sense of community. This is a regular, full-time benefited
position. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS(Responsibilities,
accountabilities, and competencies; may not include all duties of
this job)Resident & Staff Services Liase with various buildings as
directed and this can include driving across the portfolio from one
location to the other during the same shift.Work to build
professional relationships with residents to increase rapport.
Steers and directs tenant questions to building staff.Partners and
problem solves with Residential Specialist and staff in creating
plans that address tenant/community concern or issues.Assists
Residential Specialist staff in duties related but not limited to
to , re-entry into individual apartments. Mediates conflict using
de-escalation, conflict mediation and other techniques as
needed.Provides support, guidance and oversight as directed by
Building staff, Crisis Manager, Director of Safety,), Deputy
Director of Permanent Supportive Housing or Chief of Supportive
Housing (CSHO). Building Security & Safety Promotes security &
safety of Plymouth’s premises in accordance with Plymouth safety
and emergency policies & procedures. Ensures all entry doors to the
building are secure and notify designated individuals i.e.,
Maintenance or Capital Improvement staff if repairs, adjustments
are neededOperate and respond to radio calls as needed via the
organizations provided equipment. Supports building staff in
maintaining safety and security as directed by Crisis Intervention
Manager, Director of Safety, PSH staff, and informs Residential
Services Manager (RSM) of any violation of program rules; intervene
on building management’s behalf to remove unauthorized guests,
including calling 911.Assist PSH staff in conducting safety checks
of the floors, stairwells, and building perimeter. Promotes a safe,
positive environment for residents and staff. Reduces risk(s) to
operations and building community by providing skilled
de-escalation and physical intervention support in elevated risk
events by intervening in crises, responds to emergencies, initiates
contact with emergency response systems while focusing on the
tenets of harm reduction and trauma-informed care. Review and
maintains safety logs.Interfaces with outside support agencies in
higher risk situations in conjunction with the crisis manager
and/or safety directorAccurately analyzes reports and records
incidents across the Plymouth portfolio to assist in internal and
external investigations, trend analysis, and Plymouth's incident
reduction goals. Works with local authorities and first responders
under the guidance of the building staff.Administrative .Checks all
radios at the start and end of all shiftsProvide support for Payee
Program Check distribution when requestedShares information for
Crisis Manager either in person or via email during
shift.Communicates safety & security needs or potential
improvements needed at Plymouth buildings to Building Management
and the Crisis Intervention Manager.Maintain confidentiality and
privacy with respect to resident information and compliance with
regulatory requirements when assisting in gathering resident
information.Attends and participates in regular staff and team
meetings. Practices a cooperative work approach and promotes
teamwork among co-workers.Performs additional duties as assigned by
the Crisis Intervention Manager, Director of Safety, Chief of
Supportive Housing and Deputy Director of Permanent Supportive
Housing as needed. ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS(Any equivalent
combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and
experience)Education: High school diploma, GED certificate or an
equivalent combination of education, and relevant work
experience.Experience: 1 years’ experience in Security
OperationsPlymouth funded Certifications: Certification or/and
training in Self Defense is required or to be completed within a
reasonable period of time. Certification or/and training in
De-Escalation is required or to be completed within a reasonable
period of time.WA State Security Guard Certification or/and
training is required or to be completed within a reasonable period
of time.Current WA State Driver’s LicenseKnowledge, Skills and
Abilities: Able to communicate and work effectively with a diverse
group of voices.Ability to communicate effectively with residents
and the public and always maintain professional boundaries with
residents. Think and act quickly and effectively in emergencies.
Analyze situations accurately and make appropriate decisions in a
timely manner.working with individuals demonstrating the effects of
trauma, substance use or behavioral health challenges.Demonstrated
ability to work with diverse populations.Ability to work
independently and with confidence in various environments as well
as effectively in a team environment. Ability to stay calm and work
effectively in a dynamic and potentially challenging environment,
where personal safety or safety of others may appear at risk.
Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one
task to another. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office applications Word and
Outlook, and ability to work efficiently and effectively with
customized databases and technology and conduct Internet research.
Desired Qualifications: Experience with diverse, low-income,
homeless, or special needs population. Previous employment in
social services, supportive housing, or mental health.
De-escalation & conflict intervention skillsSelf Defense Training
is desired. Salary: $29.56 to $32.61 hourlyThis is a full-time
