The Electrical Engineer works directly on key projects, contributing to the product concept, planning the hardware development effort, writing requirements, and monitoring the quality of the output. In addition, this individual is responsible for the detailed design, performing safety risk analysis, design for manufacturability (DFM), and integration, verification planning including EMC testing and reporting. Member of R&D Electrical Engineering team developing board / system designs for next generation or next iteration of biomedical devices. Design and/or assist in design of simple to complex boards and FPGAs to meet the product design requirements. Work includes the design, fabrication, modification, evaluation, and verification of circuit boards, FPGAs and test fixtures/systems for use in biomedical devices. Works under general direction in the application of standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques. Provides solutions to a variety of problems and demonstrates knowledge of current technical and recent advancements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: * Mixed signal board level designs including feasibility assessment, requirements capture, schematic capture, simulation, PCB layout, verification, board bring-up & test, and software integration. * FPGA designs including feasibility assessment, requirements capture, Verilog/VHDL coding, part selection, test bench generation and simulation, verification, board bring-up & test, and software integration. * Follow established procedures to prepare test methods and specifications; analyze equipment to establish operating data, characterize performance parameters, and conduct experimental tests. * Provide production and lifecycle project level support including change orders to address obsolete components and other manufacturing issues. * Proficient use of lab test equipment such as logic analyzer, oscilloscope, Hipot, arbitrary waveform generator, data acquisition systems to test, characterize and debug circuits. * Research, develop, design, and test electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks * Recommend and/or perform design modifications as indicated by test and usage * Implement and/or approve engineering documentation as required by the design controls processes * Perform design failure mode and effects analysis on board level designs. Requirements * Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience * Minimum 2 years of related experience PREFERRED * Masters degree in electrical engineering or related discipline * Experience with medical device industry best practices * Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and multiple priorities * Experience with FPGA design, Verilog/VHDL coding, simulation, layout management, board bring-up, lab debugging, system integration, design verification, and manufacturing handoff * Experience with system level architecture and part selection * Experience with micro-processor-based designs including FPGAs, DSPs, and small embedded processors * Experience with high-speed 'external' connectivitys such as: Ethernet, USB2.0, UART * Experience with high-speed 'internal' connectivity: USB, DDR/DDR2, LVDS, SPI, I2C * Excellent technical communication skills, both written and verbal * Experience with Cadence Allegro or equivalent for schematic capture and PCB layout * Experience with Arena or any other PLM equivalent * Proficient with MS Office tools WORKING CONDITIONS: * Fast paced office environment * Lab environment * Noise level typical of an open office environment * Extended hours as needed * Drug-free PHYSICAL DEMANDS: * Frequent keyboard and mouse usage * Frequent sitting for extended periods of time * Occasional bending and stooping * Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds TRAVEL: * Occasional travel, less than 5% OTHER DUTIES: This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the Team Member.
