We are seeking an Occupational Therapist (OT) who will provide services that help patients to perform at their highest possible level. The OT is available to perform evaluations for identification of needs related to activities of daily living (e.g., hygiene and grooming), accommodations required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (including recommendations for adaptive equipment and training in its use), cognitive dysfunction, sensory processing deficits, or other needs that present barriers to optimal functioning. The OT will develop appropriate interventions for identified needs and contribute to individual treatment planning. The OT will provide activities appropriate within an inpatient psychiatric setting that will enhance the development of independent living skills in coordination with the Activities Therapy team. The OT will serve as a consultant as needed to all members of the interdisciplinary treatment team. OT services are provided under the direction of the Director of Clinical Services. Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in Occupational Therapy.Experience:
    • Two (2) years of related experience preferred, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness also preferred.Licensure:
      • Must have current Washington State OT registration.Additional Requirements:
        • Must obtain CPR, Handle with Care, Verbal De-Escalation, and First Aid Certification upon hire.May be required to work overtime, flexible hours and weekend rotations, as well as at any site within the Fairfax Behavioral Health System.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
          • Knowledge in occupational therapy and interventions.
          • Have the skills and ability to create related programming for various patient demographics.
          • Knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses.
          • Need to be physically fit and able to perform all required recreational therapy activities.
          • Ability to work as a team player.
          • Communicate effectively with referral sources, health care team members, and community providers regarding client status and progression.
          • Knowledge of assaultive behavior management techniques.
          • Excellent leadership skills and effective human relations skills.
          • Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information in compliance with professional ethics and facility standards.
          • Ability to accept direction and adhere to organization policies and procedures.
          • Participate in performance improvement projects and activities at the hospital.
          • Continued professional development and training.
          • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet corporate deadlines.
          • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
          • Ability to orient new colleagues and supervise student interns.
          • Effective oral and written communication skills
          • Ability to maintain records, and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work.
          • Possess good interpersonal skills, be customer-service oriented, show reliability and initiative, demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience and dedicationPHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SPECIAL DEMANDS
            • Ability to stand, or walk up to six hours, sit for up to two hours.
            • Ability to occasionally push/pull wheeled carts up to 200 lbs. (i.e. crash carts, patients on stretchers or in wheel chairs).
            • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 10 lbs. (charts, records).
            • Ability to discern a variety of odors.
            • Ability to handle hazardous/infectious waste on an occasional basis.
            • Ability to work in an environment where the noise level is frequently high where chemicals are frequently used for cleaning; where mechanical and electrical hazards may occasionally be present; and where dust, mist, and steam are frequently generated in housekeeping tasks.
            • Ability to participate in the management of acutely agitated patient consistent with Verbal De-escalation and Handle with Care training and hospital procedures.
