Job Description:
Job Summary:
Collects and submits accurate, complete, and timely data to the
Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality
Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) Data Registry Platform. Compiles,
documents and enters 100 percent of metabolic and bariatric
procedures performed at EvergreenHealth into the MBSAQIP Data
Registry Platform. Represents the MBSCR role on the Bariatric
Surgery Clinical Advisory Board. Other duties include coordinating
office systems, patient scheduling, authorizations, referral
management and assists in other clerical duties required for the
efficient operations of the program.
Primary Duties:
1. Identifies 100 percent of metabolic and bariatric surgery
patients for inclusion in the MBSAQIP data registry.
2. Collects preoperative, intraoperative, 30-day postoperative, and
long-term (six month and annual thereafter) follow-up data
components for the program through the effective utilization of the
hospital medical record systems and through a coordinated effort
with individual surgeon office staff.
3. Identifies streamlining and process improvement opportunities in
the data collection process.
4. Demonstrates appropriate utilization of resources necessary to
obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the program.
5. Utilizes software applications for data collection and
analysis.
6. Responsible for the accurate, complete and timely entry of data
into the program's database.
7. Serves as an educational resource on the MBSAQIP Data Registry
Platform for internal and external audiences by developing
educational material and delivering presentations.
8. Coordinates the management and tracking of patients through the
continuum of care. Provides oversight of patient care coordination
and communicates issues in a timely fashion to department
management.
9. Responsible for scheduling inpatient, outpatient surgery center,
and outpatient clinic procedures following the standards
established by EvergreenHealth Surgical Services and
EvergreenHealth Surgical Center.
10. Responsible for non-surgical scheduling for the Weight Loss and
Bariatric Care Program.
11. Obtains necessary insurance pre-authorizations as well as
resolving insurance denials for Weight Loss and Bariatric Care.
License, Certification, Education or Experience:
REQUIRED for the position:
* Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
* Completion of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgical Clinical
Reviewer (MBSCR) Online Training Program with a minimum score of 90
percent.
* Successfully maintains annual certification
* Minimum one year experience in a hospital surgery department or
surgery clinic or with clinical research or medical records.
Clinical chart review and abstraction experience.
* Knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy, physiology, and
disease process
* Ability to build relationships and gain alignment for clinical
support and be able to articulate questions to receive an
appropriate level of support from superiors and peers.
* Ability to interact with all members of the bariatric surgical
team and administrative staff in a professional and courteous
manner.
* Ability to manage data entry deadlines and EvergreenHealth
accreditation processes as necessary.
DESIRED for the position:
* Bachelor's degree
* 2 years clinical experience, preferably in an MBSAQIP-accredited
Bariatric Center of Excellence
* RHIA, RHIT or equivalent experience
* Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and
experience
* Database management and data entry experience
* HIPAA regulations and standards knowledge
* Basic or intermediate statistical knowledge
