We are engineers and technicians, skilled scientists and bold innovators; Join us and put your passion, determination, and skill to work building the future!TheFutureIsBuiltHere#ChangeTheWorldThe BR&T Manufacturing Technology Integration Commercial team is seeking a Mid-level Materials, Process & Physics Engineer (Composite/Interior Composite/Thermoplastics), with knowledge of Thermoplastics/Thermoforming to work with our diverse team of Materials, Process and Physics Engineers supporting thermoplastic applications in airplane interiors in Seattle, Washington.This role supports enterprise interior thermoplastic material / process development, Supply Chain support / stability, and internal BCA/BDS/BGS program support.We are looking for innovative self-starters who are willing to push the boundaries of what is technically possible and are dedicated to developing and transitioning thermoplastic materials and processing technologies onto Boeing platforms.   • Support definition of requirements for materials, parts, and processes used in the manufacture and engineering design of aircraft through testing and research
  • Create and revise specifications and other documents used to manage the deployment of materials, parts, and processes
  • Draft test plans and perform tests to qualify new materials, parts, and processes to meet internal and regulatory requirements. Conduct basic root cause and corrective action analysis to determine cause of materials, part, or process failures and implement solutions
  • Visit Boeing manufacturing facilities and suppliers to qualify materials, processes and parts, and to perform audit and troubleshooting activities
  • Use project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements. Incorporate environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areasThis position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. On-site work will be at a minimum of 2 days per week.This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a U.S. Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. U.S. Person includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
    • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
    • 2+ years experience in engineering
    • 1+ years experience in thermoplastic materials and processingPreferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
      • Experience with composite materials engineering / polymer engineering
      • Experience with thermoplastic material properties and selection criteria
      • Experience with thermoplastic material characterization, failure analysis, and root-cause/corrective-action
      • Experience with thermoplastic processing and tool design (Injection Molding, Sheet/Profile Extrusion, Thermoforming, Rotational Molding, Compression Molding)
      • Experience with thermoplastic test methods and test plan development
      • Experience with thermoplastic part design
      • Experience with simulation software to assess design of injection molded parts including filling, packing, and warpage analyses
      • Experience with thermoplastic joining techniques (Ultrasonic Welding, Spin Welding, Hot-Plate Welding, Heat Staking, Adhesive/Solvent Bonding, Mechanical Fastening)
      • Experience with aerospace requirements and procedures for materials and processes
      • Experience with quality management systems for thermoplastic operations
      • Experience with flammability and flame retardant materials
      • Experience with ASTM and other industry specifications for thermoplastics
      • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
      • Good engineering judgment, decision making, and analytical skills
      • Collaborative approach to problem solving and product development
      • Effective project and time management of multiple concurrent projectsTypical Education/Experience:Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master).
