The Role
The Corporate Controller (director-level) leads nine (9) individuals (including a manager) across two teams, including Accounting and Membership. - The Corporate Controller owns all facets of AP, AR, Payroll, and Accounting and Technical Accounting, including regulatory and tax compliance, internal controls, and reporting, as well as Membership administration. - The Corporate Controller reports to the VP Finance (CFO) and supports other key F&A priorities: financial analyses, financial audit, 401K audit, annual budget, and special projects. - If you are a talented individual and an experienced people manager seeking to demonstrate excellence over the next 24-36 months and beyond and prepare yourself for the next step in your professional growth, this role may be an excellent match.
Skills and Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
Current CPA license - if you are not a licensed CPA, please do not apply
Minimum 5+ years supervising/managing people
Demonstrated strategic mindset combined with the ability to execute through staff
Unafraid to hire people far better than yourself
Technically adept - able to quickly master different technologies without assistance
Advanced Excel skills or higher required (i.e., don't bother applying if not already highly proficient with sumifs, countifs, match, IF statements, pivot tables, graphs, multi-parameter sorting, various date functions, etc. - there is a test)
Intermediate to advanced at analytical or financial modeling
Strong to expert technical accounting knowledge & skills
Strong to expert knowledge of internal controls (i.e., can design a framework from scratch)
Highly organized - let's say that again - highly organized
Ruthlessly accurate and precise
Always seeking improvements and better ways to do things
You want to be a better professional than you are today and are willing to learn and work hard to do so
Responsibilities
Lead, manage, and grow a team of talented professionals
Drive vision and strategy of accounting & membership teams
Architect and drive internal control program to greater maturity
Own transactional processes (AP, AR, Payroll, etc.)
Own technical accounting
Primary functional owner for ERP core financials implementation (2022)
Improve financial close (TB final) from four (4) days to two (2) days within 24 months (with staff able to accomplish the deadline while working normal hours - no overtime needed)
Own compliance activities (financial audit, 401K audit, fed/state tax, etc.)
Establish and maintain strong working relationships with all functional team(s) and leadership
Support CEO, executive team, and Board of Directors business/analytical needs
Own new-member in-take process and ongoing member administration
Seek continual improvements in Membership self-help initiatives, processes, and performance metrics.
